ANC Proposed Motion on Gadija Davids

1 June

This motion was proposed by Max Ozinsky on behalf of the ANC in the Western Cape Provincial Legislature this afternoon. It was adopted by the House.

Motion on Gadija Davids

I move without notice that this House:

Noting that;

1.A citizen of our province, Radio 786 journalist Gadija Davids, is a participant in the Freedom Flotilla which was delivering urgently needed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza;
2.That the State of Israel has committed a crime of piracy by launching a military attack against unarmed merchant ships in international waters which has resulted in the loss of more than 10 lives.
3.That it is now reported that Gadija Davids is alive and being held in an Israeli jail.

Resolves

1.To express our serious concern for the safety of Gadija Davids and other civilians on the ships of the flotilla.
2.To call on our government to take all possible steps to ensure the safety of Gadija Davids.
3.To condemn this act of piracy by the State of Israel and calls on them to immediately release the hostages they have taken.
4.To express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this act of piracy.
5.To express our support to the family of Gadija Davids in these difficult times and our hope that their daughter returns safely.
6.To express our thanks to the department of International Cooperation for the work they are doing to secure the release of the hostages and their condemnation of this incident.
